Barge, Sr., 87, a retired aircraft mechanic with the Norfolk Naval Air Station, died of congestive heart failure on March 14, 1993, at Norfolk Community Hospital. Mr. Barge, a resident of Norfolk for 77 years, was born in Fayetteville, NC. As a young man, he became an accomplished guitarist and performed with several jazz orchestras in Norfolk. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Thelma Barge; three daughters, Faye Tolliver of Mitchellville, MD. Celestine Bailey of Richmond, Kim Williamson of Orange County, CA; and five sons, Gene of Chicago, IL, Arthur of Silver Spring, MD, Milton of Baltimore, MD, Berlye of Norfolk and Wendell of New Llano, LA.; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
