Norfolk Landmark August 23, 1898
Mrs. Sarepta A. Barkley, wife of Mr. James Barkley, died suddenly Sunday morning 
at the residence of her husband, No. 4 Clay street. The deceased was 39 years of 
age and leaves several children. The funeral took place from the residence 
yesterday afternoon at 5 o’clock, the services being conducted by the Rev. Mr. 
Lawson, the Presbyterian city missionary. The interment was in Elmwood Cemetery.
