Earl Elwood Barnard, 78, a resident of Littleton, N.C. since 2000, passed away 
Jan. 24, 2008, in Portsmouth. Mr. Barnard grew up in Chesapeake where he graduated 
from Great Bridge High School.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 
50 years. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Joann Barnard; two daughters, 
Maggie Lowery of Chesapeake and Joni Challenor of New York; and two grandsons, 
Brian Mundie and Justin Smith, both of Norfolk. The funeral will be conducted at 3 
p.m. Sunday in the Littleton Baptist Church, Littleton, N.C. The Rev. Mike Currin 
will officiate. The family will receive friends in the church social hall 
immediately following the service. Interment will follow Monday at 2 p.m. in St. 
Mary's Catholic Cemetery, 3000 Church St., Norfolk, with the family receiving 
friends after the interment at 629 Greystone Lane, Chesapeake. Arrangements are 
under the care and direction of the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & 
Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, VA 23322. In lieu of flowers, the family 
requests that memorial contributions be made to the Littleton Baptist Church, 108 
Moseby Ave., Littleton, NC 27850.
