Ledger-Dispatch September 30, 1909
Mrs. Annie E. Barnes, wife of C. O. Barnes, who was yesterday stricken with 
apoplexy, died last evening at 5 o’clock at the Norfolk Protestant Hospital, aged 
49 years. The deceased was formerly Miss Alexander of Portsmouth and had been 
living in Norfolk for twenty-five years. She was a highly esteemed lady and was an 
active worker in LeKies Memorial Methodist Church, of which she was a member and 
where the obsequies occur at 2 p.m. tomorrow. She is survived by her husband, a 
daughter, Mrs. J. A. Pledger, and two sisters, Mrs. James Hogwood and Mrs. Michael 
Dyer, all of Norfolk. The interment will be in Elmwood cemetery, Norfolk.
