Barnes Dies; Negro Attorney Benjamin Jerome Barnes Negro attorney, who had practiced his profession in Norfolk since 1925, died yesterday at 8:30 a.m. at his home at 912 Hayes Street after a long illness. Born in 1887 at Brandon, he was the son of the late Robert and Ann Barnes. He attended Prince George County School and Smallwood Institute, receiving his legal education at Blackstone College in Chicago. Becoming a member of the Virginia Bar of Norfolk in 1925, he also was a member of the Norfolk County, the Tidewater and the National Bar associations. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. In addition to his wife, Mrs. Ada Nelson Barnes, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Anna Mae Benton and Mrs. Mildred Jones, of Norfolk; a son, Bennie Barnes, of New York; two sisters, Mrs. Belle Johnson and Mrs. Rachel Wooden, of Bayside, N.Y., and two brothers, John Barnes, of New York City, and James Barnes of Spring Grove.
