George B. Barnes Capt. George B. Barnes died at the Atlantic Hotel last night after a long illness, aged 54 years. Capt. Barnes was a native of Murfreesboro, N.C., but had resided in this city about twenty years. He was a member of the commission firm of Vaughan & Barnes and had a large trade with the Carolinas. He retired from active business pursuits about two years ago with an ample fortune. His death will be much regretted by his many friends in this city and North Carolina. The funeral will take place Friday morning. **************************************************************** The funeral of Capt. George B. Barnes took place from Christ P.E. Church yesterday morning and was conducted by the rector, Rev. Dr. O.S. Barten. Representatives of the Cotton Exchange and the Virginian Club were present as a mark of respect to the memory of the deceased. There were handsome floral tributes. The interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, the following being the pallbearers: Messrs. John R. Todd, John N. Vaughn, H. T. Campbell, W.T. Barron, George L. Arps, John E. Doyle, C. DeWitt and Dr. A.C. Palmer.
