Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Tuesday, December 24, 1996 
Stanley T. Barnett, 84, of the 4400 block of Colonial Ave., died Dec. 22, 1996,
in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

A retired bookkeeper for the Navy YMCA, he worked for 40 years. He was a
Portsmouth native and was a member of First Baptist Church, Bute Street,
Norfolk, where he was a deacon. He was a 33rd degree Mason Prince Hall Shriner.
He was past master of Norfolk New Light Lodge No. 196, past illustrious
secretary of Alpha and Omega Consistory No. 9. Before his illness, he was an
active member of Club 33 Degree Valley of Norfolk and a member of Arabia Temple
No. 12.

Survivors include his wife, Edwina Barnett; a daughter, Arviette Stewart;
son-in-law, Herbert Stewart Jr.; son, Stanley T. Barnett Jr.; devoted
daughter-in-law, Zella Barnett; sister, Martha Brothers; nine grandchildren and
10 great-grandchildren. He was the son of the late Virginia Barnett and William
Barnett.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church, Bute
Street, by the Rev. Robert G. Murray. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Hale
Funeral Home is in charge. The body will be placed in the church for viewing at
9:30 a.m. The family will assemble at the church at 10:45 a.m. Thursday.
