He was a native of Kingston, Pennsylvania, and a resident of Norfolk for most of his life. He was the son of Bernadine Ruseskos Barney and the late Stephen Barney. Steve was a graduate of Norfolk Catholic High School, class of 1970, and Old Dominion University with a degree in Business. He was employed for 37 years by the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority where he was a Project Manager. He was a Roman Catholic and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Peggy Price Barney, of Norfolk, and their two children; Kelly C. Barney and Bret P. Barney, both of Norfolk; his mother of Virginia Beach and his sister, Bernadine White, and her husband, Whitey, of Collington Harbor, NC.; his mother- and father-in-law, Mary and Frank Price; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Dennis Price and his wife, Kathy, Donny Price and his wife, Barbara, Kelly Price, Mary Kay Price-Lawrence and her husband, David, Eileen Price and her husband, Bene, and Joan Price-Bayer and her husband, Hayden. He also leaves behind his aunts, Rosalie R. Hoffman and Mary Lou Williams, many cousins, nieces and nephews and one great-niece. He was a devoted son and husband, but his most cherished role was that of being a father. He never tired of talking about them and sharing his pride and love for them. A Christian Wake Service will be held in the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Tuesday evening at 7 p.m., with a visitation with the family until 9:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, March 27, at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, by the Reverend James Griffin. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
