Ray Barrett Sr. and a native of Craven County, N.C., died Saturday in a hospital. She was a retired legal secretary, having served various attorneys and law firms during a 50 year career, including Earl W. White; Williams Tunstall and Taylor; Kellam and Kellam; and Jenkins and Jenkins. Before becoming a legal secretary she had taught school in North Carolina and had been employed at the old Union Railway Station in Norfolk. She was a member of Park Place Baptist Church and its Ann Judson Bible Class and Woman’s Missionary Union. She was educated at East Carolina Teachers College, the present East Carolina University. Survivors include a son, Harry Nelson Gustin, and a brother, George Richardson Avery, both of Norfolk; three grandsons; and a great-grandchild. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Dr. Paul B. Waltlington Jr. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk, is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to Park Place Baptist Church, Norfolk; East Carolina University, Greenville, N.C.; or a favorite charity.
