Howard Barry died at his parents' residence, on North street, yesterday morning shortly before 2 o'clock, after a lingering illness of several months. Howard was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. T. Barry and had just entered his twenty-first year. He was a general favorite with all his companions and acquaintances. The Virginian extends its sympathy to the bereaved family in their sad hour. His funeral will take place this afternoon from the above residence at 5 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. Rot. Gatewood, of St. Paul's P.E. Church. Norfolk Virginian May 7, 1896 ***************** Howard, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Barry, died yesterday morning at 2 o'clock, after a lingering illness. His death has cast a gloom over his circle of many friends, by which the deceased was much loved. Barry, passed away yesterday morning at 2 o'clock, at the residence of his parents, on North street, Berkley, after a lingering illness with consumption. He was twenty years of age and held in high esteem by a large circle of warm friends whose sympathy will go out to his parents in their affliction. page 2 The New Daily Pilot May 7, 1896 ******************* The funeral of Mr. John Howard Barry took place yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock from his parents residence on North street and was largely attended by relatives and friends. The services were conducted by Rev. Robert Gatewood, of St. Paul's P.E. Church. The floral offerings were numerous and handsome, the casket being entirely covered. While the remains were being borne to the hearse, Miss Mary Thurston sang, "Goodnight," which brought tears to the eyes of all present. The interment took place in Magnolia Cemetery. The following young men, friends of the deceased, acted as pallbearers: W.G. Pritchard, John M. Gibbs, W.S. Rudd, Jr., J. Francis Parks, C.L. Old, Arthur and Henry McCoy.
