Barry, 80, passed away in his home June 9, 2010. Born in Norfolk, May 3, 1930, he was the son of the late William and Pauline Barry. Benny was predeceased by his siblings, Betty Siedel, Marjorie Staley, Billy Barry and Carole Flowers. Benny was a member of the Ocean View Democratic Club, the VFW, the American Legion and the Ocean View Seniors Golf Association. He served in the U.S. Air Force. Benny was a popular local boxer in the 40's and was well known as the "Flaming Redheaded South Paw" from Ocean View. Benny will be dearly missed by his precious wife of 40 years, Claudene Barry; children, Carole Penrod, Tim Barry and Bill Barry; sister, Paula Curtis; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A celebration of Benny's life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 14, at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 13.
