Norfolk Virginian November 21, 1879
Funeral of Major General Barton.
The funeral of this distinguished British officer will take place from Christ 
Church at 12 M. today and will be attended by the Old Dominion Guard of Portsmouth 
and a detachment of the Norfolk City Guard, who will fire the usual military 
salute at the grave. A detachment of the Norfolk Blues, as a mark of esteem for 
the distinguished dead, will fire minute guns from the time the procession leaves 
the church until the closing ceremonies at the grave are concluded. The officers 
at this naval station will also attend the funeral as a token of respect to the 
deceased military chieftain.
