Mr. Bashara was a native of Norfolk, and for many years he owned and operated the Tri-City Distributing Co. in Newport News and was a member of the Elks Lodge (NU)315 BPOE in Newport News. He played for the old Norfolk Tars football team. However, he was best known for his career as a prizefighter and was Virginia champion and contender for the World Bantamweight title. During World War II, Mr. Bashara was an important figure in the war bond sales by organizing many boxing matches and dances at the Norfolk Arena. Survivors include two daughters, Judy M. Maiziar of Dover, N.H., and Sandra B. Tenneyson of Barnesville, Ga.; a son, Fred G. Bashara Jr. of Norfolk; a sister, Rose B. Diaz of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren. A chapel service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, by Father Julian B. Goodman. Burial will be private.
