Mr. Baskette was a native of Norfolk and the son of the late Fitzhugh and Florence Delaney Baskette. Curtis was Navy veteran of World War II and retired after a long career as an insurance broker. Mr. Baskette was also an Honorary Member of the Cosmopolitan Club of Norfolk and a past Master of Cavalier Lodge No. 80. AF&AM. As a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Norfolk, Curtis served on the vestry for many years. Mr. Baskette was married for more than 67 years to his loving wife, Lorraine Bonney Baskette, who survives him. Curtis was preceded in death by his older brother, Hugh. Surviving him is a daughter, Judith Byers and husband Bernie Byers of Raleigh, N.C.; three sons, Curtis W. Baskette Jr. and his wife Pat of Portsmouth, Robert D. Baskette of Roanoke and G. Douglas Baskette and his wife Ilene of Daphne, Ala.; and five grandchildren, Peter B. Baskette and wife Kimberly of Virginia Beach, Kate Sweeney and husband Sean of Chesapeake, Brock Byers of Raleigh, N.C., Mason Byers and wife Shannon of Raleigh, N.C., and Melinda Morefield and husband Tim of Richmond. Mr. Baskette is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, Brittany and Matthew Baskette, Patrick, Allison and Sam Sweeney, Logan and Lane Byers and Ella and Hope Morefield; a sister, Marguerite McGlynn of New York; and two brothers, Horace and his wife Dot of Virginia Beach and Howard of Norfolk. A graveside service will be private. The family will receive friends at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 1416 Cedar Road, Chesapeake from 7 to 9 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the memorial fund of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 1445 Norview Ave., Norfolk, VA 23513.
