Mrs. Baskette was born Jan. 30, 1920 in Norfolk and was the daughter of the late Hope and May Bonney. She was the widow of Curtis W. Baskette, to whom she was married for 67 years. Lorraine was a past member of MeKendree Methodist Church and St. Stephens Episcopal Church, both in Norfolk. Lorraine's family was central in her life. They include her four children, Curtis Baskette Jr. and his wife Pat of Portsmouth, Judy Byers and her husband Bernie of Raleigh, Bob Baskette and his partner Tom Croft of Roanoke, and Doug Baskette and his wife Ilene of Daphne, Ala.; five grandchildren, Pete Baskette and wife Kim of Virginia Beach, Kate Sweeney and husband Sean of Naples, Italy, Mindy Morefield and husband Tim of Richmond, Brock Byers and wife Wendy of Raleigh, and Mason Byers and wife Shannon of Raleigh; and also nine great- grandchildren, Brittany and Matt Baskette, Logan and Lane Byers, Patrick, Allie and Sam Sweeney, and Ella and Hope Morefield. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
