Mr. Bass was born in Norfolk. He was employed with Chapman's Towing Co. He was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. He attended Merced College, Merced, Calif., where he played on the basketball team on an athletic scholarship, and graduated in 1990. He was a 1988 graduate of Indian River High School and had played on the team that won the 1986-87 AAA state basketball championship. Survivors include his mother, Jeanette Bass of Norfolk; four sisters, Cheryl Harris of Fort Belvoir, Va., Gina Bass and Stacy Bass, both of Fayetteville, N.C., and Karen Bass of Norfolk; four brothers, Michael Bass and Alan Bass, both of Petersburg, Mark Bass of Virginia Beach and Christopher Bass of Norfolk; and a grandfather, James Turner of Norfolk. The funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Antioch Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. I. Joseph Williams. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Family and friends will assemble at 904 Culpepper St. at 11 a.m. for the procession. Metropolitan Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
