Bass, 61, of 1411 1/2 Cary St. died Friday in a Norfolk hospital after long illness. She was a daughter of Clarence and Mrs. Gertrude Howell Mingle and the widow of Herbert T. Bass. A native of Isle of Wight County, she had lived in Norfolk 50 years and was a member of Moton Park Prayer Band and St. Mary's Holiness Church, where she was the "church mother." Surviving are two sons, Shelton Bass and Levi Holland of Norfolk; four daughters, Mrs. Vernice Jones, Mrs. Verneddia Furguson and Mrs. Geovia Bass Ridley of Norfolk and Mrs. Beatrice Jackson of Preston, Md.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body was taken to Fitchett Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at St. Mark Congregational Christian Church Monday at 1:30 p.m. by the Rev. Shaffer Copeland, pastor of St. Mary's Holiness Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
