Bass and the late Dr. Southal Bass, died at her home, 723 Chapel Street, Saturday night, January 22nd. Her funeral was held at St. John A. M. E. Church, of which she was a member, Tuesday afternoon, January 25th and was largely attended by old and young. Rev. L. L. Berry delivered a very touching eulogy on the life of this young girl. He was assisted in the services by Rev. D. J. Lee, Rev. J. A. Young and Rev. G. O. Wing, the pastor of St. James A. M. E. Church of Berkley. Music was rendered by the Missionary Choir of the church. Miss Lennice Butts, a schoolmate of the deceased, very sweetly rendered “Peace, Perfect Peace” with Mrs. J. D. Jackson at the piano. The remains, accompanied by a host of relatives and friends, were borne to Calvary Cemetery and laid to rest under a profusion of flowers, tributes to the sweet life and character of the deceased, sent by loved ones and friends. Lucille was loved by all who knew her and her passing cast a spell of sadness over the community. She was a senior of the B. T. Washington High School and at the end of last year, June, was jubilant over the fact that she would graduate in 1927, but sickness overtook her in July and every thing that human hands could do was done to restore her to health but the end came peacefully Saturday evening. The pall bearers were Messrs. Claudius Harrison, Phillip Beslow, Paul Burton, Ernest Faison, Samuel J. Lewis, and the two James Reid. The following young ladies, schoolmates and friends acted as flower bearers; Misses Verna Dudley, Burnette Crowson, Bernice Langley, Eula Edmonds, Veola Jones and Elizabeth Collins. Miss Lucille is survived by her mother, one brother, Southall Jr., a sister, Miss Mary Bass and a number of other relatives.
