She was a native of Williamsburg, Va., and the daughter of the late William and Clara Byrd Baker. She was the widow of Southall Bass III. Mrs. Bass was a retired educator from the Norfolk public school system having taught at Tucker Elementary School and retiring from Norview Elementary School. She was a faithful member of Grace Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Church Women and St. Monica's Guild of the Church. She was a graduate of Virginia State College, now University, and a member of the L&J Gardens Civic League. She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Kenneth E. Bass Sr.; a grandson, Kenneth E. Bass Jr.; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday at Grace Episcopal Church, 1400 E. Brambleton Ave., with the Rev. Father Harold J. Cobb, D.D., officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The family will receive friends at the residence. Riddick Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
