Norfolk Virginian Pilot Friday June 10, 1938
Mrs. Janie Matthews Bassett, wife of Charles E.G. Bassett and daughter of 
the late Lewis and Mrs. Maria Matthews, a native and former resident of 
Norfolk, died Tuesday afternoon at 5 o'clock in Buffalo, N.Y. where she had 
resided 7 years. Besides her husband, Charles E.G. Bassett, she is survived 
by two sons, Millson M. Bassett, of Buffalo, and John V. Bassett, of 
Rutherford, N.J.; six grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Hennie Cutchin, of 
Isle of Wight County; one brother, Lewis Matthews, of Rock Creek, Md., and a 
number of nieces and Nephews.
The body will be taken from the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 
Colonial avenue, to Old St. Paul's Church for services tomorrow afternoon at 
2:30 o'clock. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
