Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark August 20, 1930

Mrs. Elizabeth D. Bassett, aged 62 years, wife of Jesse V. Bassett, died at 2:30 
o'clock yesterday morning at the residence, 332 Ward Avenue. Mrs. Bassett was a 
daughter of the late James A. and Mary Daughtrey Cross. She was a native of 
Portsmouth and had been a resident of Norfolk for 43 years. Besides her husband, 
she is survived by two sons, J. Allen Bassett, of Norfolk and Richard R. 
Bassett, of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren, Ruth Virginia Bassett, of 
Norfolk and Richard K. and Thomas A. Bassett, of Washington. Mrs. Bassett was a 
member of Christ Church and of Virginia Chapter No. 22, Order of Eastern Star. 
Funeral services will be held at the residence tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 
o'clock with the Very Rev. Hugo Blankenship, acting rector of Christ Church, 
officiating. Interment Elmwood Cemetery.
