The Norfolk Virginian Pilot November 16, 1943
James Gilbert Bassett, 77, son of the late John W. and Mrs. Josephine White 
Bassett, a native and former resident of Norfolk, died yesterday morning at New 
York City, where he had resided for the past 17 years.
Surviving him are four nephews, J. Allen Bassett, of Norfolk; R.R. Bassett, of 
Arlington; John V. Bassett, of Rutherford, N.J. and M.M. Bassett, of 
Birmingham, Ala.
The body will be brought to Norfolk for funeral services and interment.
