A native of Portsmouth, Mr. Bass had retired from the Journal & Guide after 42 years. His work has been exhibited in the gallery of Norfolk State University's Fine Arts Building. He retired in 1976 but continued working as a freelance photographer. He was a member and former vestryman of Grace Episcopal Church, and was a member of the Bachelor Benedict Social Club, the Hiawatha Club and Campbell Lodge 67, A.F. & A.M. Survivors include his wife, Lena B. Bass; a son, Kenneth E. Bass Sr. of Virginia Beach; a sister, Mary Bass-Lane of Chicago; and a grandchild. The funeral will be conducted at noon Monday in Grace Episcopal Church by the Rev. Joseph N. Green Jr. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Viewing will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Riddick Funeral Service. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Friends may join the family at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to the assistance program at Grace Episcopal Church.
