Bateman and daughter of the late Martin and Mrs. Estha Spruill, died at 4:40 o'clock yesterday morning in the residence of her daughter, Mrs. V. L. Howell, 524 Broad street, Port Norfolk, at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 21 days. Mrs. Bateman was a native of Cresville (Creswell), Washington County, N.C., but had made her home here for the last fifteen years. She was a consistent member of Berkley Avenue Baptist Church. Besides her daughter, Mrs. Howell, she is survived by a brother, Luther Spruill, of Windsor, N.C. The funeral service will be conducted in the residence at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Burial will take place in Magnolia Cemetery, Berkley.
