Mrs Costella Bates, 52, an employee of the Richardson Nursing Home, was 
buried in Calvary Cemetery on Sunday after final rites at the E. A. Hughes 
Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bateslived at 1425 Republic avenue. She was the daughter of Lucy 
Elliott Ward and the late William Ward. A Norfolk native, her husband, 
Raymond Bates, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Melvin Bates; a daughter, Miss Mildred Bates; and a 
brother, Melvin Elliott.
