Bates of 2500 Ruffin street, Norfolk, who died recently, were held at First Calvary Baptist Church, Norfolk, where the deceased was a member for a number of years. The Rev. Dr. C. E. Griffin, minister, officiated. Survived by: Husband Floyd Daughters: Mrs Hazel B. Watkins, Mrs. Gladys B. Banks, Mrs. Marilyn B. Key, Mrs. Lugretha B. Morgan, and Mrs. Lois B. Ferebee, all of Norfolk; and Ruth Snipes, of Bates TN. Sons: Robert and Jerome Bates, both of Norfolk. Sisters: Mrs. Henrietta Reid, Unionville VA; Mrs. Ivy Boston, and Mrs Marion Lockett, Norfolk; one brother, Thomas Bland of Dinwiddie county. Four half brothers, Major Bland, Dinwiddie; Chester Bland, Petersburg VA; Linwood and Benjamin Bland, Hackensack NJ. Four half sisters, Mrs. Lottie Cephas; Mrs. Idell Williams, Mrs. Charlotte Martin, all of Hackensack NJ, and Miss Vernella Bland, of Chicago. Five sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law, 15 grandchildren, several cousins and other relatives. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery with Morning Glory Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
