Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, June 30, 2004
Matthew "Butch" Bates IV of the 2700 block of Kimball Terrace, died June 26, 
2004. Born in Norfolk to Mattie Bates and the late Matthew Bates III, he was 
employed by the City of Norfolk in the Utility Department. 

Survivors include two daughters, Sabrina Woodhouse and Tonya Woodhouse; four 
sons, Matthew Bates V, Sampson Bates, Maurice Woodhouse and Morris Woodhouse; a 
sister, Gloria Curtis; six grandchildren; a brother-in-law, William Curtis Sr.; 
and a very special friend, Cliff Hathaway. 

A funeral will be held Friday at noon in Good News Worship Center by Pastor Levi 
Willis II. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . The family will receive friends 
at the residence. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Riddick Funeral 
Service. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Friday.
