Norfolk Landmark July 12, 1892

                        His Injuries Were Fatal

The young man George Battams, who was injured at the Chesapeake Knitting Mills, 
South Norfolk, Saturday, died Sunday morning and his funeral took place at 4 
o'clock yesterday afternoon from the Berkley Avenue Baptist Church. It was 
conducted by the Rev. H.N. Quisenberry. The attendance was very large as the 
young man was exceedingly popular and the floral designs were both numerous and 
handsome. The following were the pallbearers: Jr. O. of A. M. -George F. 
Griffin, C.E. Deheart and West Davis. 
Tidewater Council of Berkley - S.C. Humphries, Charles Casey and W.C. McGinley.
Citizens - J.W. Hosket and A.J. Fitzpatrick.
A peculiarly sad feature of the young man's death is that he was to have been 
married next week.
