H. Harris, City Coroner, Dr. James D. Galt, on Sunday last, held a coroner’s inquest over the body of Nina Batten, who, it is supposed, came to her death by poison administered Saturday morning by her step-father, Jordan Berry. After hearing the evidence of the case, the jury returned a verdict in accordance with the above supposition. Dr. Galt also held a post mortem examination of the body, extracting the stomach and a portion of the liver, which will be analyzed. In connection with this case, we would state that Mr. Millard King, a clerk in Dr. Cannon’s drug store, on Bute street, testified at the jail that he sold the prisoner five cents’ worth of arsenic, which he (Berry) said he wanted to kill rats with. The case will be examined before Mayor Tucker this morning.
