Attired in funeral black, the little band of red-eyed friends repressed hot tears of sorrow and misery as Rev. Father Kelliher pronounced in their musical tongue a short blessing upon the two bodies that would soon be laid in their last resting place. Father Kelliher conducted the impressive ceremonies of the Catholic funeral in Italian, addressing a few brief remarks of condolence to those to whom the two murdered bodies were held dear, but voicing the belief that they would be better cared for in the kingdom of their Master than they were upon earth. Side by side, the two plain caskets rested at the foot of the altar, lighted by the rays from six small candles placed at the heads of the coffins. Flowers rested above the two inert forms, a last tribute of love from their friends. In the street, at the entrance to the church, stood dozens of curiosity seekers. They packed the narrow thoroughfare, until it was only with difficulty that the hearses could be brought to the curb. As the two caskets emerged, they jostled and fought their way to the front ranks with a craning of necks, to get a view of the coffins in which rested the two victims of the double tragedy. The two wounded Perna boys are rapidly recuperating at St. Vincent’s hospital, there now being almost no doubt they will recover. Marino’s coffin was borne by the following pallbearers: P. Marino, L. DeStefano, Nick Granata, R. F. Sparago, G. Vita and A. Albano. Her husband’s casket was borne by A. F. and D. Margiotta, Tony Castoro, T. Somma and F. DeStefano.
