Battley, who departed this life at his residence No. 101 Mariner street, early Wednesday morning, were held from Freemason Street Baptist Church at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The funeral was attended by a large congregation and Norfolk Lodge No. 38, B. P. O. Elks, and Lafayette Lodge No. 9, I. O. O. F., of which in life the deceased was a member. The services were conducted by Rev. Dr. M. B. Wharton, pastor of the church, and Rev. A. S. Lloyd, of St. Luke's P. E. Church. During the services solos were sung by Miss Annie Dey and Mrs. John P. Kevill. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful. The interment was in Elmwood Cemetery. Following were the pall-bearers: Messrs. W. B. Langley, John Willis Jr., Edgar L. Wright, W. W.Dey,H. S. Herman, W. H. Venable, Harry C. Pearson, John S. Pickett, james K. Cooke, Dr. George H. Rose.
