Charles William "Bill" Batts Sr., 64, of the 200 block of Robert Drive, died 
May 12, 1990, in a hospital. 

Mr. Batts, a native of Roanoke, had retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 
13 years. He was a member of Church of the Ascension, Norfolk, and was a Navy 
veteran of World War II. 

Survivors include his wife, Mary C. "Sherry" Batts; two daughters, Susan B. 
Staley of Virginia Beach and Sandra L. Batts of Durham, N.C.; a son, Charles 
William Batts Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Gertrude Russell Batts 
and Mary B. Martin, both of Norfolk; and four grandchildren. 

A Memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Church of the 
Ascension by the Rev. Richard Risser. Friends may join the family at the 
residence. 

Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Church Of The 
Ascension, 405 Talbot Hall Road, Norfolk, 23505. Oman Funeral Home, Great 
Bridge Chapel, is handling arrangements.
