Baylor resigned the position of Health Officer of this city in order to remove to Denver City, Colorado, where he went to reside, in accordance with the advice of eminent physicians, in the hope of recuperating his impaired health. Yesterday the sad intelligence of his death in that city reached his relatives here. A native of Norfolk, Dr. Baylor had always resided here, with the exception of the period of the war, when he served as surgeon in the Confederate Army. As a physician he had a reputation for skill and professional ability surpassed by none of his years and his kindly manner and courteous deportment made him always welcome to the sickroom of his patients. To the poor he was always kind and unremitting in his attentions and the disease which finally undermined his constitution was contracted in making professional visits for which he neither received nor expected compensation. Retiring and modest in his professional demeanor, his merits were fully appreciated by his medical brethren and when he left Norfolk he carried with him as a tribute most grateful to him, their expression of their faith and confidence in his skill as a physician and his integrity as a man. The host of friends whom he left behind in Norfolk will mourn his untimely death in a strange land and their deepest sympathies will go out to the bereaved family he has left behind him. *************************************************************************** Information of the death of Dr. J.C.
