BAYNE, NORFOLK BUSINESS LEADER, SUCCUMBS Short Illness Fatal To Building Supplies Dealer; Funeral Services Today ACTIVE IN CHURCH AND CIVIC AFFAIRS Charles Meredith Bayne, well-known Norfolk business man and active for many years in civic, fraternal and church affairs, died yesterday morning at 12:20 o'clock at his home, 623 Baldwin place, after a short illness. He was 62 years old. Mr. Bayne was sole owner of the building supplies firm of C.M. Bayne & Co., which he founded in 1898. Other business connections included the vice presidency of the Forest Lawn Corporation and of the Tidewater Building Association. He also was on the board of directors of the association. He was a member of the Norfolk Light Artillery Blues during the Spanish-American War and was a thirty-second degree Mason. Always active in church work, he was a member of the board of deacons of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Bayne was a native of King William County, a son of the late John Henry and Mrs. Margaret Mundy Bayne. He was educated in the public schools of the county and in early manhood left the home of his parents to go to sea. In 1890 he took up his residence in Norfolk and lived here the remainder of his life. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Harriet Emory Beazley Bayne; a son, Charles Armistead Bayne and a brother, Frederick Moore Bayne, all of Norfolk. Funeral service will be conducted at the residence this afternoon at 3 o'clock by the Rev. T. Ryland Sanford, D.D., pastor of the First Baptist Church. Burial will be private in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends have been asked by the family to omit flowers.
