Born in Greensburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late George Ansley and Patrice Doran Robertshaw. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold Lewis Bean, and her siblings Paul, David, Mary (Rogers), George, Martha (Hunt), and Thomas. A stay-at-home mother of seven, Elinor, the daughter of a successful inventor, besides running a loving and efficient household, volunteered for many causes, as well as becoming a Girl Scout leader. She could sew an evening gown, wire a lamp, re-cover and upholster a couch, lay a brick patio and was an extremely talented artist. She was blessed with a wacky and witty sense of humor that enlivened every gathering. Elinor met Harold Bean who was born in Portsmouth, VA, and raised in Maine. They were married in Montclair, NJ, and, after stints in Philadelphia, PA, and Greensboro, NC, Norfolk became their home in 1954. Their house at 1141 Cambridge Crescent held some of the best times of our lives; home was wherever our mother was. She is survived by her children, Susan, Nancy Oestreich (Don), Peter, Catherine Hoyle (John), Claudia (Ron Smith), Michael (Donna), Martha Buczek (Jason); eight grandchildren, Susan Souza (Greg), Daniel Oestreich (Monica), Jack Hoyle, Michael Hoyle, Peter Hoyle, Stephen Hoyle, Madeline Smith and Lauren Buczek; and 5 great- grandchildren, Cody and Nathan Souza, and Hitomi, Nao, and Jaxon Oestreich. A brief interment will take place at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, Aug. 28 at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery Columbarium, located at 3000 Church St., with a reception following at The Ballentine at 7211 Granby St. The family would like to thank the staff at The Ballantine for their dedication and care. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Norfolk Chapel is handling arrangements.
