The car was making its trip to the turntable at the northern terminus of Church when the fatal accident occurred. The circumstances are said to be as follows: The child was on the western side of Church street, just about opposite the residence of her parents, when she attempted to cross the street ahead of the car, and, it is supposed, was struck by the horses, and kicked by them under the car, the wheels of the right or eastern side of the car passing over her neck, almost severing the head from the body, and resulting in instant death. (The paper goes on to report about the inquest.) After the accident, the child was picked up by Officer Turner. Its poor mother, upon hearing of its death, swooned away. The father was not at home at the time, but, when sent for and informed of the accident, was deeply affected. They have the sympathies of our people at the sad and sudden affliction that has befallen them. Additional Comments: There is a discrepancy between the date of death given in the database (11th) and that calculated from the obituary (12th).
