The Virginian Pilot January 1, 1957


Cecil Gurley Bell, 72, husband of Mrs. Ida Wyble Bell, died at a Norfolk 
hospital Monday at 10:20 p.m. Besides his wife, he is survived by two 
daughters, Mrs. Virginia Lowery of Norfolk and Mrs. Dorothy Johnson of San 
Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Miss Carrie V. Bell and Mrs. C.F. Wyatt, both of 
Nroflk; two grandchildren Edgar Hopkins of San Diego and Mrs. C.L. Collins of 
Levittown, Pa.; and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bell was a lifelong resident of Norfolk, and until his retirement in 1953 
had been employed by the City of Norfolk for 25 years.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home tomorrow 
at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Cedar Grove.
