He was 65 years old. Operator of a foot-passenger ferry between Norfolk and Berkley before the Berkley bridge was constructed, Mr. Bell was well known in Norfolk and Berkley. A native of Currituck County, North Carolina, he had resided in this section for the past 60 years. Mr. Bell was active in civic affairs and in fgraternal (sic) circles, and held membership in Berkley Lodge, A.F. & A.M.; Chesapeake Tribe No. 167, Improved Order of Red Men; Willie Lee Lodge, Knights of Pythias, and Division 456, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He also was a member of the First Christian Church. Besides his wife, Mrs. Pattie Morse Bell, he is survived by five daughters, Mrs. H. E. Twine of St. Bride's; Mrs. H.P. Noles, of Annapolis, Md., and Mrs. J.L. Morgan, Mrs. J.W. Twine and Miss Pearl Mabel Bell, all of Norfolk; two sons, Elwood Lee Bell and Edgar James Bell; one brother, Willie H. Bell, of Norfolk, and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock at the First Christian Church. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
