BELL Coroner Adjourns Until Saturday Inquest Into Death On Lamberts Point Tracks Mangled almost beyond recognition, the body of Isaac G. Bell, a plumber, living at 1439 Forty-first Street, Lamberts Point, was found lying alongside the tracks of the Virginia Railway and Power Company, Redgate Avenue and Langley Road, at 1:25 o'clock yesterday morning. The body was identified about 9:30 o'clock yesterday morning by Bell's mother, brother and several friends. Bell's body was found lying on the left side of the outbound track to Lamberts Point by W.W. Powers, motorman of car 3166, which was coming to Norfolk from Lamberts Point on the last trip up for the night. Powers reversed the car and carried it back to the Lamberts Point police station, where Sergeant Freeman and Patrolman Roache boarded it and were carried to the scene of the accident. Dr. R.S. Kight, city coroner, was notified and summoned a jury which viewed the body yesterday at H.D. Oliver's Funeral Apartments, 610-12 Freemason Street and adjourned until noon Saturday, when they will meet in the high constable's office. W.W. Powers, motorman, and R.P. Oswall, conductor, of car 3166 were arrested on the charge of accidental homicide. The cases were continued in Police Court yesterday until August 28. Both men were released under bond for their appearance. Powers and Oswall deny knowing anything of the accident until they found the body. According to Sergeant Freeman, Bell was dragged 57 feet by the car. While no one saw the accident, it is thought that Bell, walking to Lamberts Point, was overtaken by the car at Langley Road and attempted to board it on the left side. A car ticket was found alongside his hat, which was found 57 feet ahead of the spot where the body was found. While two of Bell's trousers pockets were turned inside out, he had $3.65 and a number of soda water checks in one pocket. He also wore a stickpin. Bell is said to have been seen by two men at 12:40 o'clock yesterday morning on one of the Ghent and West Redgate Avenue cars. It is thought that he got off the car at the terminus near Langley Road and was walking home when the Lamberts Point car overtook him. Bell was 34 years old and a native of Norfolk. He is survived by a widow and five small children; his father, N.T. Bell; three brothers, W.N. Bell of Mathews County and J.C. and T. H. Bell, both of Norfolk; three sisters, Mrs. O.J. Hurst of Mathews County, Mrs. C.G. Bowers of Norfolk and Mrs. T.A. Brown of Baltimore. The funeral will be held at 4 o'clock this afternoon at H.D. Oliver's Funeral Apartments, 610-12 Freemason Street. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. ************** BELL - Suddenly, Tuesday, August 18, 1914, at 1 o'clock a.m., ISAAC G. BELL, aged 34 years.
