Belote departed this life on the 3rd instant, after a lingering and pa painful illness, in the 58th year of his age, leaving a wife, eight children, fi five grand-children, and numerous relatives and friends to mourn for their ir irreparable loss. Did I say mourn? Indeed, they have reason to mourn, for as a hu husband he was everything that a doting wife could desire; as a parent he was in indulgent even to a fault; as a friend he was true and constant, yes, fulfilled ev every station with manliness and dignity. His last moments were truly af affecting. When asked if he knew he was dying, he replied: “I am sensible of my co condition.” He then called his lovely family around him, bade them an af affectionate farewell, and said: “I am dying, I have done my duty and I die in pe peace.” His spirit then took flight and returned to God who gave it. In early life Mr. Belote was deprived of the advantages of a classical e education, but he appreciated those advantages from its loss, and possessing a l large share of good common sense, with an indomitable energy, he brought all h his mental and physical power into requisition, and hence his great success. He h has left us, and the city of Norfolk has lost one of its most worthy and useful c citizens. Farewell, dear friend. Peace to thy ashes.
