NORFOLK - Florence Elizabeth "Ga-Ga" Bennett, 96, of the 7000 block of Gregory
Drive, passed away April 15, 2009, at Thornton Hall. She was born April 13,
1913, to the late Agnes and John Bunch in Mertle, Va. She was educated in the
Norfolk public school system. Florence was a member of Mount Gilead Missionary
Baptist Church, where she served as an usher, pastor's aide and mother of the
church. She was also a member of Rising Sun Chapter No. 32 for more than 70 years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Nathaniel Bennett; a daughter, Jean B.
Lewis; a son-in-law, Raleigh Lewis Sr.; and two granddaughters, Jean L. Broadnax
and Joan L. Johnson.

She is survived by two grandchildren, Rosalyn Jackson of Norfolk and Raleigh
Lewis Jr. of Newport News; nine great-grandchildren; 18
great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; five nephews; and a
host of other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Sharon, Pia, Cynthia and
the Thornton Hall staff.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist
Church, 1057 Kennedy St. Dr. Shelton Murphy will officiate. Interment will be in
Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at 7033 Gregory
Drive one hour prior to the service for the procession to the church. Viewing
will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday in Metropolitan Funeral Service,
Granby St. Chapel. Condolences may be offered at www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com.
