Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Sunday, March 4, 2001 
Annie M. Scott Benton, of the 1200 block of Colonial Avenue, passed quietly and
gently into eternal rest on Thursday, March 1, 2001, at Sentara Norfolk General
Hospital.

She was a native of Norfolk and the daughter of the late Henderson and
Floredelia Coston Scott. She was the widow of James W. Benton Sr.

Mrs. Benton had retired as a cosmetologist and had worked at Beatrice's Beauty
Salon, formerly on Chapel Street in Norfolk. She was a dedicated member of Union
United Church of Christ and had served as Den Mother for the Cub Scout Pack, a
Deaconess and also had been a member of the Senior Choir.

She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Gloria Benton Walker; two sons, the
Honorable James W. Benton Jr. and his wife, Marriane, and Kenneth Scott Benton
and his wife, Valerie; a sister, Helen Lacey; four grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law Henry, J. Featherstone. She was
predeceased by a daughter, Rosa Benton Featherstone.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Union United
Church of Christ, 877 Goff St., with the Rev. Joseph Copeland officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at
Riddick Funeral Service and the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The
body will be placed in church at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
