Mr. Benton was born in Norfolk and was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was formerly employed with the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier and had also operated K & B Mini Mart & Deli. Survivors include his wife, Kaye O. Benton; one aunt, Dorothy Taylor; one uncle, Marc Evans; his stepfather, Ollie Simmons; and a host of relatives and friends. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception by Father Walter Barrett. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Family and friends will assemble at Graves Funeral Home at 12:15 p.m. for the procession to the church.
