Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Sunday, January 27, 1991 
Elijah D. Bernard, of the 2500 block of Westminster Ave., a retired crain
operator, died Jan. 17, 1991, in a hospital.

Mr. Bernard, a native of Virginia, retired from Norfolk Naval Base after 34
years. He was a member of Queen Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Smallwood, and a brother, Samuel Bernard, both
of Norfolk.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday in Queen Street Baptist Church
by the Rev. Lloyd R. Williams. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Viewing will
begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Pretlow's Funeral Home is handling
arrangements.
