The Virginian Pilot Friday June 12, 1970
Richard Ellys Berry, 76, of 609 W. 38th St., died in Salem Veterans Hospital 
Tuesday.
A native of Elizabeth City, N.C., he lived in this area 65 years.
He was the husband of Mrs. Ruth Hart Berry and a son of Richard Williams and 
Mrs. Lelia Berry Berry.
He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Virginia 
Polytechnic Institute and a veteran of World War I. 
Besides his widow, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Shirley Berry Smith of 
Bloomsburg, Pa.; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Berry Teagle, Mrs. Evelyn Berry 
Evans and Mrs. Helen Berry Gregory of Norfolk; and three grandchildren.
The body will be taken from H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to Magnolia 
Cemetery for a funeral service Sunday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Thomas A. 
Russell of Park Place Baptist Church.
