Beslow who died Tuesday evening, May 17, at a local hospital following a stroke of paralysis, were held Sunday from Grace P.E. Church with the Venerable Archdeacon B.W. Harris officiating. Mr. Beslow, a lifelong resident of Norfolk, had been an employe of the W.G. Schwart Company for 30 years or more, was an active member of the Excelsior Band and the Philharmonic Glee Club, and a member of Grace Church. Apparently in good health, his death came as a shock to his many friends and admirers. This was attested in the profusion of flowers and great number of white and colored acquaintances who attended the rites. A personal floral design from Mrs. W.G. Schwarts, one from the employees of the company, and one from his former neighbors on Lexington St., where among the many beautiful designs. The Excelsior Band turned out in full regalia to pay tribute to their departed members and friends with the bugler blowing taps at the conclusion of the rites at the cemetery. The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ann Haskins Beslow; five sons, Phillip, Jr., Bernard Henry, Leander and Edward, and two daughters, Mrs. Eva Williams and Mrs. Bettie Jones, through a previous marriage, all of Norfolk; three brothers, Waymond, Lee and Louis of Norfolk, and one sisters, Mrs. Louis Smith of New York; 17 grandchildren and a stepson, Waverly Jones. Pallbearers were employees of the W.G. Schwartz Company where he had served for so many years. They were: Leroy Hayes, Isaac Booker, Roger Edmonds, James Whitehead, Stanley White and Rudolph Billups. Interment took place in Calvary Cemetery with Kin Undertaker Parlor in charge. Additional Comments: Interment not registered.
