Beslow, 82, of the 1800 block of Canton Ave., died May 17, 2000, at Norfolk Health Care Center. George James Beslow, son of the late Louis Beslow and Marian Proyor Beslow, was born on Oct. 18, 1917, in Norfolk. He attended the public schools of Norfolk, served in the U.S. Army in Europe and was employed at the Granby Street Shulman's Clothing Store for 42 years as their service supervisor before his retirement in 1981. He was affectionately known as ``Mr. Shulman's fashion plate'' throughout the Tidewater area. George Beslow was active as a member of St. Mary of The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church before his illness. He was noted and observed as an excellent singer and ballroom dancer. He took pride in his community as a member of the Campostella Heights Civic League. He also served on the National Council of Senior Citizens, Washington, D.C., Hunterville Senior Citizens Organization and its male choir, Virginia State Council for Senior Citizens, and Tidewater Senior Citizen Melody chorus. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Goode Beslow; a son, Anson Beslow of Norfolk; stepson and stepdaughter, Anthony C. ``Tony'' Goode and Marlene F. Goode of Chesapeake and New York City; three grandchildren, Jerome, Joseph and Jason Beslow; three uncles; two nephews, Danny Logan and George Logan of Chesapeake and Maryland; two great-nephews; and a host of nieces, cousins and loyal friends. He was predeceased by his only sister, Mary Logan. A funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday at St. Mary of The Immaculate Conception Church by Monsignor (Father) Barrett. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery . The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hale Funeral Home.
