Norfolk - Vernon Bethea (Little Joe) of 1334 Outten street died July 13 in 
St. Lukes Hospital, Manhattan.

A native of Norfolk, he was a son of Leroy Bethea and Mrs. Mattie Bethea 
Johnson.

He was formerly employed at T. C. Williams Cleaners before going to New 
York.  He was also a former member of Bank Street Baptist Church.

Surviving, besides his parents, are a daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Watson of 
Norfolk;  two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Barge of Norfolk, Mrs. Verona Bullock of 
Beacon, NY and four brothers, Willie E. Bethea, Robert Bethea and Leroy 
Bethea Jr., off of Norfolk and S/Sgt Wilson Bethea of Ft. Campbell, KY.

Final rites for Mr. Bethea were held Tuesday, July 21, in Metropolitan 
Funeral Chapel.  Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
