 Norfolk Virginian Pilot Tuesday June 4, 1940
Mrs. Mary Harris Billups, age 73, died at her residence in Portlock last 
night at 9:10 o'clock after a comparatively short illness.  She was the 
daughter of Hunter W. and Susan Gary Harris, and widow of Henry O. Billups. 
Mrs. Billups was a native of Garysburg, N.C., and had made her home in 
Norfolk County and vicinity 57 years.  She is survived by two sons, Harry E. 
Billups and George M. Billups, both of Norfolk County; two sisters, Mrs. H. 
Clifton Smithers, of Princess Anne County, and Mrs. George A. Renn of 
Norfolk and two brothers, John B. and Garey Harris, of Norfolk; four 
grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Billups was a charter 
member of the McKendree Methodist Church, Brambleton.
The body was removed to the Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, Ohio and Rodgers 
streets, South Norfolk.  Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday 
afternoon at 4 o'clock in the McKendree Methodist Church.  Interment will be 
in the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery.
