R. A. Laws officiating. Other ministers who eulogized the church and civic worker were the Rev. Frank Wise, pastor of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church; the Rev. Samuel Wilson, pastor of the New Calvary Baptist Church, and the Rev. W. W. Williams, deputy, Ideal Lodge. Honorary pallbearers were past presidents of the Sons of Norfolk Lodge, and active pallbearers were members of the same organization. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Florence Reid and Miss Lenora Billups; a son, Willie T. Billups; husband, William Billups; two sisters, Mrs. Hannah Edwards and Mrs. Annie Henderson; a grandson, Joseph Billups, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Billups was a former president of the Phyllis Wheatley organization, and held membership in the Silver Link, the Eastern Star, and the Johnson Avenue Neighborhood Club, of which she was vice president. Mrs. Billups was pronounced dead by the family physician, Dr. J. E. Washington, at 1:32 p.m., April 22. She had been under his care for considerable time, the doctor told police. Her death occurred in the office of Dr. Eugene M. Hodges, who said she had responded briefly, then lapsed into a coma, after he had pulled her teeth, under gas. Deputy Fire Chief F. J. Nicholson and his inhalator squad made futile attempts to revive the victim using two or three tanks of oxygen for a period of more than an hour. The deputy chief said that Dr. E. W. Murray also gave Mrs. Billups three doses of adrenalin in an attempt to revive her.
